New internship program from Northern Lights Resort

Concordia International University recently announced that the Northern Lights Resort & Spa Program will be held this summer. Concordia is sponsoring the academic growth of college students and recent graduates through a meaningful paid internship in the competitive resort field. The 6-8 month internship at Northern Lights Resort & Spa provides hands-on training and real-world practice across many disciplines in the resort field.

Northern Lights Resort & Spa is an award-winning Lodge/Resort business catering to customers from all over the globe, and we offer All-Inclusive packages for Northern Lights Viewing & Nature – Fun Activities between September to April. We are looking for an enthusiastic and adventurous tour guide for Northern Lights Viewing and daytime sightseeing and natural interpretation tours.

This will be a very diverse job in a fast-paced environment, and flexibility in many fields is required. In this position, you will have to have great teamwork skills as well as individual decision-making skills. The main aspects of this job are guiding day tours, Aurora tours, and sightseeing tours, natural interpretation tours, airport transfers and helping with the general daily duties at the resort if needed. We offer continuous training on the job.

This position is for an open-minded, outgoing person who can work well in our small team and independently and is able to develop new ideas to successfully help grow Northern Lights Resort & Spa.

This is a seasonal/full-time job from September 1 until the beginning of April.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have a valid work permit for Canada to be considered
  • Independent work in the fields of guiding, planning and scheduling
  • Guiding skills (interpretative skills, further training on the job)
  • Good knowledge of local history and geography or willingness to acquire this knowledge
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)
  • Fluency in a second language an asset, Japanese and/or Spanish with translation skills
  • Valid driver’s license, Canadian Class IV driver’s license
  • Up-to-date First Aid & CPR Certificate
  • Time scheduled hours
  • Photography Skills an asset but training will be provided
  • Reliability, dependability, & punctuality
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Team player/leader

Responsibilities:

  • Resolve itinerary and other problems
  • Coordinate activities with local tour guides
  • Coordinate recreation activities
  • Ensure and monitor luggage transfer
  • Attend to hotel, airport and other check-in/check-out procedures
  • Develop and deliver commentaries
  • Transport or escort individuals or groups on sightseeing day tours
  • Conduct guided tours of museums and historical, heritage and other sites
  • Answer inquiries and provide information

Job Location: Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada

Hours: Full Time (30-35 hours per week), 5 days a week with flexible day time and night
